The Rijeka Tourist Board is an organisation operating on the principle of destination management, established in order to promote and develop tourism in the Republic of Croatia, as well as the economic interests of legal and natural persons providing hospitality services and other tourism services or performing other activities directly related to tourism through destination management at the level for which they were established, or the City of Rijeka.
It was founded in 1994 and was entered into the Register of Tourist Boards maintained by the Ministry of Tourism under number 17 on 28 January 2010.
The Tourist Board is represented by the President of the Tourist Board and the Director of the Tourist Office in a manner prescribed by the Act and Statute.
The Rijeka Tourist Board operates under registration number 03337138 according to the classification of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, and activity code 9411 according to the 2007 national classification of activities (NKD). The personal identification number (OIB) is: 57909269434.
The structure and organisation of the Tourist Board is determined by the provisions of the Act on Tourist Boards and the Promotion of Tourism, the Act on Tourist Board Membership Frees, the Sojourn Tax Act and other implementing regulations.
The source of funds for performing the activities of the Tourist Board are determined by the relevant legislation – the tourist membership fee and sojourn tax, revenues from the city/national budget, revenues from the tourist board system, revenues from EU funds, revenues from economic activities, transferred revenues and other revenues.
The headquarters of the Tourist Board are located in Rijeka, Užarska 14.
Mandatory members of the Rijeka Tourist Board are all legal and natural persons who have their headquarters or branch, plant or facility where services are provided (business unit) or residence in the destination and who permanently or seasonally earn income by providing hospitality services in tourism or perform an activity that benefits from tourism or whose income is impacted by tourism.
The bodies of the Tourist Board are as follows:
1. The Assembly
2. The Tourism Council and
3. The President of the Tourist Board
The tasks of the Tourist Board, as the local destination management organisation, are the following:
1. Product development
1.1. participation in the planning and implementation of key public sector investment projects and key destination competitiveness projects
1.2. coordination and communication with private and public sector stakeholders in the destination
1.3. development activities related to connecting the elements of the tourism offer in packages and products – incubators of innovative destination experiences and products
1.4. development of events in the destination and other motives for attracting individual guests and tourist groups
1.5. development of other elements of the tourism offer with a focus on the year-round offer of the destination
1.6. monitoring and applying, independently or in cooperation with the local self-government unit and other public or private sector entities, to tenders for the development of the public tourism offer and infrastructure through co-financing from national resources, European Union funds and other sources of financing
1.7. tourism offer quality management in the destination
1.8. strategic and operational planning of tourism or product development at the destination level and, if necessary, the organisation of a visitor management system
1.9. participation in the development of strategic and development plans for tourism in the destination area
1.10. public tourism infrastructure management
1.11. participation in the implementation of strategic marketing projects defined by the Croatian National Tourist Board.
2. Information and research
2.1. production and distribution of information materials
2.2. maintaining and regularly creating content on destination websites and social media
2.3. establishment, coordination and management of tourist information centres (if necessary)
2.4. cooperation with public and private sector entities in the destination in order to increase the quality of the tourism experience and the functioning, availability and quality of public services and utilities in the tourist destination
2.5. planning, development, installation and maintenance of tourist signage systems, independently and/or in cooperation with the local self-government unit
2.6. operational participation in the implementation of eVisitor activities and other tourist information systems in accordance with the instructions of the Primorje-
Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board and the Croatian National Tourist Board such as: a unique tourist information portal and records of visitors and all examples of the tourism offer.
3.1. coordinating with the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board in implementing operational marketing activities
3.2. preparing, sorting and sending the tourism offer information in the destination area to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board and the Croatian National Tourist Board
3.3. preparing the destination marketing materials according to the defined standards and submitting them to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board for adjustments and approval
3.4. providing support in the organisation of field trips for journalists and tour operator representatives in cooperation with the Tourist Board of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board
3.5. performing other tasks prescribed by the Act on Tourist Boards and the Promotion of Tourism or other regulations.
The Tourist Board is obliged to take care that the tasks it carries out are harmonised with the strategic marketing guidelines and the instructions of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board and the Croatian National Tourist Board.
