The idea behind the ProNaCul project is promoting and preserving natural and cultural heritage, as well as supporting the development of transnational strategies to jointly promote the region as a tourist destination. Partners and associate partners come from UNESCO and Natura 2000 protected areas, or are currently in the process of becoming protected areas as part of ProNaCul pilot areas. One of the main objectives of the project is to improve the management of natural and cultural heritage through the development, implementation and promotion of a common management methodology. The activity will be supported by the creation of a virtual chamber established for the promotion of the common methodology and its transfer to other areas of the Adrion. The chamber will act as a consulting body for tourism developers in the form of an on-line platform to exchange experiences and examples of good practice in managing natural and cultural heritage. In order to improve the policies for more efficient natural and cultural heritage management, the common methodology will be disseminated among the policymakers in the form of recommendations for specific local, regional and national strategy papers to encourage the valorisation and preservation of natural and cultural heritage, especially through the development of sustainable tourism. As one of the partners on the project, the Rijeka Tourist Board will implement the ProNaCul common methodology on Trsat Castle and improve the facility by installing a video surveillance system and a new ticketing system.
